As a student of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, you have access to campus online resources, which include the password self-service tool, online library resources, campus Netmail, and the online advising site.

Your campus account consists of a username and password, which you receive when you are admitted into a program. The initial password is considered temporary, in that it will work for only five log-in attempts. You have the ability to reset your password to a more permanent one. Instructions on how to do this are located at the password self-service tool. Because all campus passwords expire every 90 days, you must return to this site and set a new password.

If you experience any problems with the password system or have questions, contact Pam Knox in the UW-Platteville Distance Learning Center by email or phone (1-800-362-5460).

Some distance education courses require a proctor, which is a person appointed to supervise you when you take your examinations. Your advisor and/or instructor will inform you of the necessity to obtain a proctor for the courses in which you enroll.

Choosing a proctor should be one of the first things you do, so that you have a approved proctor on file when you are ready to take examinations. You must meet the following guidelines:

1. A proctor must be chosen from the following list:
    a. Certified librarian
    b. Teacher, counselor, or administrator at a local school or college
    c. Member of the clergy (This must be a full-time job. Some restrictions apply.)
    d. Personnel/human resource officer where you work
2. The proctor cannot be related to you in any way or be a friend. The student’s supervisor at work or a coworker is not an appropriate proctor.

3. The proctor may not currently be a student in a UW-Platteville distance learning program. Also, she or he must not have been nor plan to be a distance learning student.

4. The student is responsible for requesting examinations and arranging a time with the proctor to take the examination.

5. The student may not have access to the examination before or after the scheduled testing time.

To obtain a Proctor Nomination Form and more information about the process, please contact the Distance Learning Center at 1-800-362-5460.

Did you know that UW-Platteville’s Karrmann Library offers many online services to distance learners? During Fall 2006, the library made available RefWorks, citation software for users to build bibliographies and a personal database of records. Off-campus students may obtain remote access to more than 100 databases. Many of these databases provide access to full journal articles.

This semester John Berg, the reference and circulation coordinator at Karrmann Library, will provide a webinar for distance students to learn more about library services. Webinar is short for web-based seminar – a presentation, lecture, workshop, or seminar that is transmitted over the web.

Stay tuned to the announcements on the UW-Platteville distance education home page to learn the date of this webinar. To learn about other library services available to distance learning students, visit the Karrmann Library's Distance Education Students page.

One key to success as a distance learning student is to stay abreast of important financial and academic deadlines. On the UW-Platteville distance education home page, we provide two tools to help students track deadlines: the Calendar and RSS Feeds.

If you have a PDA or another digital tool that allows you to track dates by inputting the information, you may refer to the Calendar to record important dates for the Spring and Summer 2007 semesters. If, however, you do not have a personal digital tool and/or prefer information to be presented on a more "need-to-know" basis, you may subscribe to the RSS Feed instead. With this subscription, you may review upcoming deadlines using a RSS reader. (We recommend the simple-to-use Google Reader.)

The UW-Platteville’s Financial Aid Office has created an Online Calendar for those who are interested in applying for financial aid.
